Location & Map of Colombo

Colombo is situated in western Sri Lanka, hold its geographical coordinates at 6° 55' 55" North, 79° 50' 52" East and is the city with highest population in the island.

Since Colombo is the main commercial city in Sri Lanka most of the main roads and railway that lies across the country is interconnected to this city. The A1 road connects Colombo with Kandy, whereas the A2 road connects Colombo with Galle. With regard to railway transport, the main line travels from Colombo to Badulla whereas the Southern line connects Colombo and Matara. Other railways routes include the Puttalam line, and Northern line, which spreads to other important cities in the island.

Colombo can be easily accessible from the Bandaranayke International Airport along the Colombo- Negombo road. The World Trade Centre towers, Galle Face green, Independence Square, Colombo lighthouse and the harbour are some of the prominent landmarks of Colombo.

Most of the five star hotels in Colombo are located in the metropolitan city area surrounding the Galle Face Green. The main railway station and bus depot of Colombo is located within Colombo Fort, which is one of the busiest places in the city and is within easy reach of these hotels.
