A magnificent Island, one beach and an enormous festival, what more can you ask for?
Hikkaduwa is a beautiful coastal town that attracts both local and foreign travellers due to its unspoilt beaches, world famous coral sanctuary, gamut of water sports activities and top class accommodation facilities.
With this immense popularity, Sri Lanka Tourism or SLT has initiated a festival in Hikkaduwa, titled the Hikkaduwa Beach Festival just to add a bit more spice to the vibe and excitement of this great coastal town.
This annual festival brings together the young and old of Sri Lanka and the World over to celebrate the breathtaking beach life. The festival features both local and international professional DJ’s, famous musicians and world class dancers. Sri Lanka Tourism identifies this as an escape from the ordinary.
The beach festival of 2008 brought together local culinary specialists like Chef, Dr. Pubilis who demonstrated his culinary delights. It also featured 6 prominent DJ’s, renowned artists like Paul Medez who released 61 singles worldwide, Jenn Martinello, Lisa Littlewood and Jorge Jamarillo of Denmark. This mega event also featured world class dance troupes such as Glam Slam from UK who have performed along with the famed Sir Richard Branson.
Fun lovers enjoyed all day and all night long by the beach as the organisers of the festival planned out a 24 hour programme on Friday and Saturday. A diverse range of activities were designed to cater to all ages. For instance, there was the Grand Parents Day, Beach Rave Street Party for the youth, Ladies Day, Kids Corner, Jazz festival, Kite festival, Fireworks, Rock Concert, market, beach sports and a whole lot more.
This carnival type beach festival is also slated to be held in 2009 as well and preparations are underway to organise an even bigger and better 5 day event.
