Bhathiya & Santhush
Bhathiya and Santhush, the talented duo also known as BNS is Sri Lanka’s biggest names in the music industry. Since Bathiya Jayakody and Santhush Weeraman started their music journey together in 1998, they have released seven albums and together they have had seven number one hits in the country.
These accomplished musicians have created a whole new genre of music in Sri Lanka. Being totally original, Bhathiya and Santhush create modern music with a local twist and most of their singles are a mix of Sinhalese and English.
In 2002 Bhathiya and Santhush signed a contract with Universal Music and thereby became the only artists to sign such an agreement with an international music company. They also won the runners up award in the Kazakhstan Voice of Asia Music Festival.
This duo released their 5th album in summer of 2008. The Neththara Album was released in 2005 and sales record hit 75,000 in a mere 5 months. Some of their major albums also include Vasanthaye, Life and Tharunyaye.
Producing the country’s best ethnic fusion music, this duo has toured nearly 20 country’s showcasing their contemporary style at concerts. According to Bhathiya and Santhush, one of their most unforgettable concerts took place in Sharjah in front of a massive crowd of about 27,000 people. In addition they have opened concerts for famous acts like UB40, The Vengaboys and DJ Bobo.
Ayubowan (Namaste) was also one of their major albums that hit record sales. This album features most of their previous singles re done in Hindi. The Namaste album was mainly produced to take the Indian Market by storm and so they did. Bhathiya and Santhush were the first Sri Lankan artists to enter the Indian music industry. The music video “Oh Sathi” featured two of Sri Lanka’s most famous national level cricket players, namely Sanath Jayasuriya and Chaminda Vaas.
