Sri Lanka is home to a vast number of mountains that are located in different geographic locations around the country, though most are located in the central and southern parts of the country.
One of the most unique mountains in the country is known as Siri Pada or Adam’s peak. It is interesting because the peak is of great significance as the four different religions that are found in Sir Lanka all consider the mountain a holy site for similar reasons.
At the peak of the mountain is a large footprint that has been attributed to different figures by different religions. According to Buddhism the footprint that can be found here belongs to Lord Buddha, while Christians believe that is actually the footprint of St. Thomas. Hindu beliefs attribute the footprint to that of Lord Shiva while Islam believes it to be none other than the footprint of Adam. It is because of the latter reference that the mountain has been called as it has.
Though this is the most important mountain, there are several others many of which are linked to both historical and religious aspects of the country.
