Weather

Sri Lanka is blessed with a tropical climate which provides the environment with consistent weather all throughout the year owing to its equatorial location.

However, despite its proximity to the equator, there are certain areas in the country where the temperature can drop below 14 degrees Celsius, notably in Nuwara Eliya and the hill country. It is advisable to wear thicker clothing when you’re in these areas. The weather in the coastal and central areas is generally hot and humid with an average temperature of around 27 degrees Celsius. The temperature in the hill country is cooler and pleasant with an average of 20 degrees Celsius.

Sri Lanka also has an abundant source of rainfall mostly during the monsoon seasons that occur during the year. During the two rainy seasons that occur from May to July and from December to January respectively, there is a complete change in the nature of the climate. The weather in the country is very pleasant and gives all visitors the freedom to wear light clothing and engage in any activity of their choice.
