Sri Lankan Weather

The tropical climate of Sri Lanka provides an environment where the weather is consistent all year round.

Despite the country’s location close to the equator, there are areas in the country where the temperature can drop as low as 14 degrees Celsius, most notably in the Nuwara Eliya area. In such areas it is advisable to wear thicker clothing than what would normally be worn in other areas.

In the coastal and central areas the weather is generally hot and humid with an average temperature of around 27 degrees Celsius. In the hill areas the temperature is far cooler and pleasant with an average of 20 degrees Celsius.

Sri Lanka is also blessed with an abundant source of rainfall particularly during the monsoon seasons that occur during the year. Two seasons occur from May to July and from December to January respectively, bringing heavy rains that completely change the nature of the climate in the country.

The weather in the country is very pleasant and light clothing giving visitors the freedom to indulge in the activity of their choice.
