Devon Falls

Sri Lanka’s central highlands are considered to be one of the most beautiful regions on the entire island, and few things accentuate this fact better than the stunning waterfalls you’ll find here. It is often said that Devon Falls is the most beautiful waterfall you can see in Sri Lanka – so don’t miss out if you’re in the area!

At over 90 metres, Devon Falls is one of the largest waterfalls found in the island. Its beauty has earned it many nicknames over the years, most notably being called the “Veil of the Valley”. The falls are formed by a tributary of the mighty Mahaweli River known as the Kothmale Oya. Thousands of gallons of water come crashing down every second here and it makes for quite the awe-inspiring sight.

Getting to the falls is relatively simple affair, especially if you’re travelling from the nearby town of Nuwara Eliya. All you have to do is take the Avissawella-Hatton-Nuwara Eliya Highway passing Talawakelle up to Dimbula. From here, you need to travel along the Dimbula Road and you’ll eventually arrive upon the falls’ location.

The rippling cascades that the Devon Falls has will surely leave you mesmerised but that’s not all the region ahs to offer either. If you’re in the mood, just a short walk is all it’ll take to visit another magnificent Sri Lankan waterfall – St. Clair’s Falls!
