Coral Island

Located at proximity to the pigeon island, the Coral island in Trincomalee is a very narrow patch of land which is made up of… you guessed it right, corals! The small island is surrounded by reefs and vibrant marine life making it one of the best places to dive on the east coast of Sri Lanka. Since it is part of one of the pigeon island marine national park, the tropical waters around the island offer you a great many opportunities to witness unique marine creatures.

The warm waters are home to a large population of krill and a variety of other small marine creatures which attracts bigger creatures, and the extensive array of corals offer habitat to schools of vibrantly coloured reef fish and crustaceans. Together, all of these amazing creatures create a brilliant ecosystem for perfect symbiosis on a large scale and it, in turn, makes the region a haven for marine creatures to thrive. The waters which teem with such a variety of living organisms offer you an idyllic setting to plunge into and explore. The region is famous for snorkelling and diving and if you wish to partake in any of these activities, you will have to reach out to a local tour operator who will take you to the site and let you indulge in these activities. They also offer you the necessary equipment depending on the activity you choose.

On the way to the island, you could sometimes see pods of Dolphins and if you venture beyond the marine national park you could see whales as well!
