Little Adam’s Peak

With a glimpse of formidable mountains blanketed by lush greenery and misty clouds brushing over the towering peaks, this is a stunning viewpoint that boasts some of the most brilliant views on the island! Being regarded as one of the best hiking spots on the island, Little Adam’s Peak is an attraction that should not be missed on your Ella itinerary.

The mountain is named after the majestic Adam’s Peak which holds great religious significance on the island and also offers mesmerising views. In the local language, the peak is known as Punchi Sri Padha and it is located about 1.5 km away from Ella town. the climb to the summit takes approximately 2-3 hours and the hike takes place at an altitude of over 1100 meters above sea level. The hike isn’t a difficult one either and is ideal for even those who aren’t avid climbers and adventurers. You’ll start with a medium incline which winds through a tea estate and there are pointers set up to keep you going in the correct direction. You’ll also find well-maintained paths and staircases leading to several viewpoints on your way. What’s more, they are ideal for those who love photography. While passing by the lush tea hills, you’ll be greeted by the wide smiles of the ladies in colourful sarees plucking tea. You can take a few snaps with the ladies too, but be mindful that these unlikely celebrities might charge you for having their picture taken.

If you plan on beating the crowds and the heat, the best time to get to the peak would be at sunrise. Arrive at the peak as early as possible and you’ll be rewarded with grand views of the sun peeking out through the mountains as it gradually illuminates the lush greens. Sunsets are also nothing short of gorgeous here – the skies begin to change into shades of orange and pink and it’s absolutely romantic!

Once you’ve reached the peak, you’ll have panoramic views of the mountainous landscape of Ella. Look around and you’ll see other peaks covered with white clouds that hang around them. The shades of brilliant green are visible everywhere you look and it is indeed beautiful and soothing to the eye. The best part is that you would have had taken a collection of wonderful photographs by the time you reach your hotel.
