Okanda Devalaya

Located in proximity to the celebrated beach destination Arugam bay, Okanda is a small hamlet perched on top of a small rocky outcrop. The main attraction of the site is a temple that is dedicated to one of the most revered golds of Hinduism – Lord Murugan. Hindus around the region believe that this site was a place where the deity once rested and meditated looking over the oceans. Today, boasting vivid and wonderful interiors, the temple receives devotees from all around the island. The temple and its premises also serve a resting spot for the pilgrims who visit the temple at Kataragama on foot.

Surrounded by the resplendent views of the ocean and a tranquil ambience, the site is indeed an idyllic place to relax and unwind amidst the surreal setting. The outcrop also serves as an ideal place to witness the wondrous vistas of the sunrise if you make it to the rock during dawn. All in all, the attraction serves as an offbeat yet unique place to indulge in enticing and unique exploration experience.
