Getting There

The city of Kandy is 103 kilometres away from Bandaranaike International Airport and is quite a long drive despite which mode of transport you are going to select. For those travelling from the airport to Kandy, there are several options available.

Best way to get to Kandy from BIA

Hiring a vehicle

Coming to Kandy via a hired vehicle will take about 3 hours depending on the route taken. It's possible to hire a vehicle from the airport transfer service or privately through your agent or hotel.

Travelling by bus

Get to the nearest bus stand by tuk-tuk which should cost Rs.100. From here take a shuttle bus to Kurunegala and from here you can take an air-conditioned bus to Kandy which will take about 4hours and 20 minutes to get there.

Travelling by train

The most scenic route would be by train for which tickets need to be booked at least 30 days in advance. You can opt for the luxury compartment. Trains leave from the Colombo Fort Railway Station.
