Drive to Trincomalee in your very own tuk-tuk

As you travel through Sri Lanka, you’ll start to notice that tuk-tuks are everywhere! Whether it’s on the busy city streets or the open highways, these three-wheeled contraptions are an immensely popular mode of transport here in Sapphire Island. So, why not get your own? And better yet, why not drive to the picturesque town of Trincomalee in your own tuk-tuk!

There are plenty of places to hire a tuk-tuk in Sri Lanka – including Trinco! Be sure to negotiate rates with your driver on the price. The trick here is to find a nice middle ground – don’t ask to try to be too stingy and risk annoying your driver but be sure test the waters a bit. Bargaining can actually be fun once you get into it, so don’t just settle at the first price you hear.

Next up, you need to decide on a route. Sri Lanka has quite an extensive and developed road network which makes getting around the island surprisingly easy. If you’re travelling from Colombo, there’s about 230km between you and Trinco. However, that distance will breeze away as you race across the highways and roads. You can even liven up the trip by striking a conversation with your tuk-tuk driver, they’re known to be quite the talkative bunch.

Trincomalee itself is a superb beachside town that has seen rapid development over the past few years. It is here that you’ll find some of the most picturesque and serene beaches found in Sri Lanka such as the fame Nilaveli Beach. There’s also plenty of opportunities to spot wildlife while you’re here. Then again, you might be in the mood for some partying and dancing – well, Trinco has quite the lively nightlife scene going. Suffice to say that there’s much and more to do in the town, and the best part is you can to each attraction easily with that tuk-tuk of yours!
