Kandy is situated in hills of central Sri Lanka, with its geographical coordinates being 7° 17' 47" North, 80° 38' 6" East. The city can be reached from four routes namely the A1, A5, A10 and A26 roads.
Kandy lies at a height 465m above sea level. The city is developed around two open spaces, the administration buildings are located in an extended square and the lake that takes the quadrangular shape. It covers a total area of 1,940 km2, which constitutes of 1,917 km2 of land and 23 km2 of water. Kandy is located 115Km from Colombo, and can be reached either by bus or train.
