Bomburu Ella Waterfall

Nestled between the border of the Nuwara Eliya and Badulla districts is the widest waterfall you’ll find in Sri Lanka – the Bomburu Ella Waterfall. This beautiful sight is one you should seek out and see for yourself if you’re ever in the area. If nothing else,

Bomburu Ella is actually a collection of ten waterfalls that are found together, all making for one spectacular sight. The falls are made by a number of large water sources found in the area, including the picturesque Gregory Lake – these make for some great sightseeing on their own!

The falls are located about 14 kilometres away from Nuwara Eliya and it’ll take around 30 minutes for you to drive to the falls’ location. Taking the Nuwara Eliya-Welimada road is the best option available to you. In order to reach the foot of the waterfall, you’ll have to engage in a bit of a mini-hike. There’s a bit of climbing involved in this and the whole experience can a bi strenuous. However, all the trouble will dissipate the instant you make it to the Bomburu Ella Waterfall and marvel at its beauty up-close. Here you can rest up, go for a swim or even have a picnic if you’re feeling like it.
