Devon Falls

Found close to the popular tourist hub of Nuwara Eliya, Devon Falls is another stunning natural marvel found up in the hills of Sri Lanka. It is often said that Devon Falls is the most beautiful waterfall you can see in Sri Lanka – so don’t miss this out if you’re in the area!

Being well over 90 metres in height, Devon Falls is one of the largest and most majestic waterfalls found in Sri Lanka. Its beauty has earned it many nicknames over the years, most notably being called the “Veil of the Valley”. The falls are formed by a tributary of the mighty Mahaweli River known as the Kothmale Oya. Thousand of gallons of water come crashing down every second here and it makes for quite the awe-inspiring sight.

If you’re in Nuwara Eliya, reaching the falls is a relatively easy endeavour. You’ll want to take Avissawella-Hatton-Nuwara Eliya Highway passing Talawakelle up to Dimbula. From here, you need to travel along the Dimbula Road and you’ll eventually arrive upon the falls’ location.

What stands out about Devon Falls are its rippling cascades. It’s because of these that this waterfall is routinely named as the most beautiful one of its kind in the country. Interestingly, Devon Falls is found in close proximity to another famous Sri Lankan waterfall – St. Clair’s Falls. So, you can make your trip a two-for-one special!
