Elephant Rock

Aptly named after its uncanny resemblance of a sleeping elephant, the Elephant Rock is a rocky outcrop set right on the edges of Arugambay (approximately 4 kilometres away from the touristy region). The surrounding waters are a popular surf spot and as it brings in short breaks from the oceans, the region is ideal for beginners who are trying to master the art of surfing.

Though it is fairly easy to clamber up, very few, attempt to climb up the rock. There is no specific reason as to why people do not do it, but no one will stop you if you attempt to do so either. As you climb up the rock you will be greeted with the stunning panoramic views of the magnificent seascape and glimpses of mountains afar within the lands. The site is an ideal place to observe a sunrise – the crimson and orange tinge amidst the clouds will indeed inspire awe within your mind!

Few strides away from the rock there is also a small lagoon with dark waters bordered by a tiny mangrove forest. However alluring it looks, bear in mind that it is not recommended to step into the waters which are murky and deep. But you are welcome to enjoy the beauty of it from nature’s bountiful viewpoint – the Elephant Rock.
