Trincomalee’s Beautiful Beaches

Sri Lanka has always been renowned for its picturesque coastline, and it doesn’t get much better than the beaches Trincomalee has to offer. A trip to Sri Lanka’s east coast can seem like an escape unto paradise where you’re sure to make memories you won’t soon forget.

There are many beach locations to check out in Trincomalee, but there are two that stand out and should not be missed at any cost, namely the Nilaveli and Uppuveli beaches. Both of these beaches are only about 20 minutes apart from each other, so you can even switch between the two. Even better, these remain open throughout the year, so there’s no reason for you skip out!

Of the two, NIlaveli is by far the quieter option. The beach is rather secluded and is not crowded most of the time. Nilaveli is often cited as the most beautiful beach in the country and if you’ve ever visited, it’s not hard to understand why. The long stretch of coast is fringed by verdant palm groves on one side, making for a shady retreat If you’re looking to get out of the hot tropical sun for a few minutes. The beach itself is lined with soft white sand with little evidence of pollution or human activity. Then, of course, there’s the water. The calm waters that border Nilaveli pristine, often displaying a brilliant azure blue – it’s perfect for a cooling swim and you’ll truly feel like you’ve stumbled upon a tropical paradise.

Uppuveli, on the other hand, is a far livelier escapade. This is mainly due to its proximity to the city as well as the quaint beach village that lies right next to it. If you’re looking for a festive atmosphere and some good vibe, this is the beach for you. While the water is just as inviting as Nilaveli’s, this beach also boasts a number of cheery restaurants and bars – few things can beat being out in the sun surrounded by the gentle sea breeze and good music.
