Koggala Beach

Being an island that is surrounded by tropical waters. Sri Lanka has an endless coastline that is home to some of the world’s most beautiful beaches. Most of these are popular tourist destinations and are often crowded. But fortunately, the island has several hidden gems, that are ideally offbeat yet equally wonderful for you to unwind and relax – one of such is the Koggala Beach

A quaint little coastal strip located off the coast of a small fishing town, Koggala Beach is one of the most surreal and beautiful beaches on the island. Fringed in coconut palms and boasting immaculate vistas, it boasts a tranquil ambience offering the perfect paradise for those who seek for a profound sense of calm and relaxation. The waters are warm during non-monsoonal seasons and are often ideal for swimming. If you are looking for a little bit of adventure, the sea also brings in light breaks which are ideal for surfing, if you are not up for it, you could simply lie down on the beach and soak up the warmth of the tropical sun.

The weather around Koggala is pleasant during most times of the year but the region receives light rain showers during monsoonal seasons. This makes the ideal time to visit Koggala between November to May during which the sky is mostly clear and the waters are warm and pleasant.

Apart from the things you could do at the beach, there is a myriad of nearby attractions that you could visit during your time here some of them are, The Martin Wickramasinghe Folk Art Museum, Koggala Lake, and the Koggala turtle hatchery. There is also a plethora of exclusive accommodation options around the beach where you can enjoy more of the tropical bliss!

Getting to the beach is also easy and all you have to do is get on to a tuk-tuk from the Koggala town and it would take you approximately 15 to 20 minutes to reach the beach.
