Facing the well-renowned Galle Lighthouse, the Meeran Majid boasts a well maintained and whitewashed façade. Unlike other popular mosques, Meeran Masjid features a more eclectic architectural design that is an amalgamation of British Victorian and Islamic Architecture. Like a cathedral, the mosque has stained glass windows and an immaculate atrium. It features an ornately decorated mihrab at the very heart of the structure. The mosque’s floor is also adorned with vibrantly coloured ceramic tiles and it features small decorative domes as well.

Being a famous monument located within the Galle Fort, it is believed to have been built over 300 years ago and since then was damaged due to centuries worth of exposure natural elements, the whole structure was refurbished approximately 120 years ago. Galle is home to a large Muslim population and so the site serves as an important place of worship in this region. Due to its architectural splendour, it is also a popular tourist attraction. Unlike other mosques around the country which has strict restrictions, Meeran Musjid welcomes visitors as long as they are dressed modestly and are willing to abide by the rules of the Mosque. As you enter the mosque, you will certainly be mesmerized by the interiors; different regions of the mosque feature differently coloured tiles and there are separate prayer areas for women and men.

The Masjid also boasts a surreal ambience which instils peace within yourself and the longer you stay at the mosque the calmer your mind feels.
