Located approximately, 35 kilometres away from the coastal town of Batticaloa, lies a pristine strip of golden sands surrounded by a seemingly endless stretch of shallow waters. This well-renowned bay known by the name Pasikuda by locals boasts calm waters and idyllic weather conditions that set the perfect scene for you to indulge in a host of enticing watersport activities.
The Passikuda Beach has the longest stretch of shallow waters on the island and the waters at the bay are ideal for snorkelling and swimming. With shallow waters spanning up to a length of approximately a kilometre, the bay is perfect for surfing, windsurfing, and even jetskiing. As you get into the deeper waters of Pasikuda, you would uncover even more surprises beneath the waves. There are oodles of coral colonies under the shallows as well as the deep waters of Pasikuda – they are considered to be some of the most amazing places to go diving.
A few nautical miles away from the beach there are even more treasures underwater that are waiting to be discovered – several wreck sites are scattered around the seas of Pasikuda and they are indeed a spectacle that should be explored if you are an avid diver. One of the most significant of the wreck sites is HMS Hermes, which is a British military tanker that was destroyed during World War II. Furthermore, visitors to Passikuda can also enjoy chartered boat tours which will head towards deep waters where visitors could see schools of dolphins and whales.
