Kirinda Ella

Located amidst surreal and lush landscapes in the region of Pelmadulla, Kirinda Ella is the seventh tallest waterfall in Sri Lanka. It cascades down from a rocky cliff and it measures up to a whopping 116 meters. The cascade is surrounded by a thick patch of wilderness and it lays in contrast to its surrounding with its immaculate presence. Reaching the waterfall requires a short hike but as you pass through the thick undergrowth you will be delighted to discover the epic view that lies apart from the forest canopy.

There is a shallow pool of water at the bottom of the cascade and it is ideal for taking a cold and refreshing dip. The waterfall will be at its fullest during the monsoon season which usually falls during the months between July to December and it is when you will get the best views of the cascade. Tour to the Kirinda Ella has been included in the itineraries of many tour packages and you could visit the site by reaching out to local tour operators. There are a number of personal guides who would take you on an expedition to the cascade and this too would be a wonderful experience. During these curated tours, travellers also get to know about numerous stories woven around these magnificent sites.

If you have made up your mind to opt-in for an expedition, there are few things you will have to be mindful of. Firstly, a pair of proper hiking shoes with a deep patterned tread is compulsory. Also, remember that you will be visiting here during the rainy season so bear in mind that the land and rocks could be very slippery – walk very cautiously minding your step. Also, wear appropriate clothing that repels water.
