Elgin Falls

Located approximately 18 kilometres away from Nuwara Eliya, the Elgin Falls is set amidst a tranquil region that is surrounded by misty mountains and formidable peaks. The cascade itself falls down from a rocky cliff that is 23 metres in height. Reaching the waterfall requires a short hike through a scenic pathway that is bordered by lush forestland. As you walk past the greenery a clearing will appear with a gentle uproar combined with subtle lapping noise of the flowing water. You would come across a river and as you head upwards you will be greeted with the magnificent view of the Elgin Cascade.

The waterfall was aptly named as per its location which is at the very edge of a tea estate called Elgin. Even though it is not an upbeat attraction sought after by many, the waterfall is quite popular among nature lovers and adventurers. If you are someone who loves embarking on perilous journeys and have a knack for adventure, this stunning little cascade must be added to your Sri Lankan travel itinerary.

The best time to visit the waterfall is during the monsoon season which usually falls from May to September. This is the time when the cascade will be in its fullest capacity and it is quite alluring to see. But, If you have set your mind to visit the waterfalls during this period, bear in mind that the pathway will be extremely slippery so as the rocks on the waterway so be extra cautions. Also, wear proper rain repellent clothing as well and a pair of good hiking shoes with a deep patterned tread before you start your hike.
