Sri Lanka is renowned for its beautiful stretches of coastline – after all, it is one of the main reasons why the country is such a popular tourist destination. Sri Lanka’s southern coast, in particular, is renowned for pristine beaches, and Mihiripenna Beach is no exception.
In many ways, Mihiripenna Beach is the quintessential beach getaway. Here the sand is as white and soft as you can imagine. The waters are calm and shimmer with brilliance under the tropical sun. Shady palm groves border the beach and make for the perfect secluded refuge as midday approaches.
The water here is perfect for a spell of swimming, particularly as the day begins to heat up. But that’s not all, off the coast there are several vibrant coral reefs that make for great snorkeling locations. These reefs are home to a diverse array of reef fish which can make for quite the spectacular sight. What’s more, these areas are regularly visited by rare sea turtles – a true sight to behold up-close!
You’ll also want to check out the tranquil lagoon that’s found right next to the beach here. This calm body of water is a great place to relax and go for a swim in. The shady palms that surround it make for quite a view and some great photo opportunities.
