Sri Lanka named the ‘World’s Best Island’

Readers of New York-based travel magazine, ‘Travel + Leisure’ have once again ranked their top picks for cities, islands, hotels, and cruises in their ‘World’s Best Awards’. Amongst this extensive list of awards was the accolade for the ‘World’s Best Island’ and Sri Lanka was able to grab the no. 1 spot beating 14 other islands on the list; these included the Greek Islands of Santorini, Paros, Crete and Milos, the Galapagos Islands, Koh Lanta, Maui, Fiji, and the Maldives. Palawan in the Philippines and Bali in Indonesia secured the 2nd and 3rd spots respectively.

According to Rebecca Ascher-Walsh, Sri Lanka leaps ahead of the competition due to the diversity of experiences and variety of adventures offered; travelers can snorkel in marine national parks, explore tea plantations, embark on safaris at national wildlife parks home to elephants and leopards, and choose from a range of accommodation options to suit every taste.
