Sri Lanka’s tourism sector on the road to recovery

Sri Lanka’s tourism sector is recovering faster than anticipated and the country is well underway to achieving similar numbers to what was recorded in 2018. This news comes directly from Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) Chairman Johanne Jayaratne, who stated this at a media briefing by the Sri Lanka Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management (SLITHM) back in July.
Chairman Jayaratne pointed out that on Sunday, 7th July alone, 3700 travellers were recorded in Sri Lanka, which was more than half of the 7000 median number of travellers recorded for 2018. Furthermore, he went on to highlight that, subsequent to the Easter Sunday attacks in April, one million tourist arrivals were recorded; therefore, even from a conservative viewpoint of 60,000 tourist arrivals expected per month, it would be possible for Sri Lanka to achieve 2 million tourists by the end of the year.
