Sri Lanka welcomed 100,000 tourists in July

As previously estimated by Prime minister Ranil Wickremasinghe, tourist arrivals to Sri Lanka exceeded the 100,000 mark, which is an 83% increase in tourists from June. As per the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA), 115,701 tourist arrivals were recorded in July.

According to the SLTDA Director Upali Ratnayake, the tourism sector has shown steady progress over the past few weeks and the occupancy rates in hotels are improving as well. He also predicts that the industry will see a satisfactory season from October.

As stated by Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau Chairman, Kishu Gomes, the island can expect from 1.9 million to 2 million travellers in 2019. He also added that compared to other countries that faced similar situations, Sri Lanka is recovering much faster than expected.
