Swim at Unawatuna Main Sea

Unawatuna often contains one of the best beaches found in the South Coast of Sri Lanka. It is in fact, a contender for the most popular beach this tropical island has to offer. However, this isn’t all the region has to offer either. Beyond the borders of the shoreline are some of the calmest sea waters you’ll find in the Indian Ocean. This placid is perfect to go swimming in – especially to escape the hot midday sun.

The sea that surrounds Unawatuna is relatively shallow, so swimming here is a relatively easy affair. In fact, you can safely get the whole family here and enjoy the cool tropical waters. These clear waters are also home to a number of unique marine animals – ranging from reef fish to curious eels. So, in order to get the best possible experience out here, it’s best to grab your snorkelling kit. This will allow you to explore the hidden world that exists beneath the waves. This will also let you venture further off from the shore – who knows, if you’re lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of a rare sea turtle in its natural habitat. Don’t worry if you don’t have your own snorkelling gear either, there’s plenty of shops in the vicinity that’s willing to rent you all the necessary equipment.
