Sri Lanka features an interesting array of different plant life that is made possible due to its tropical climate that can support a diverse range of life. Visitors will find that the wet tropical forests are bountiful with an array of plant life which is in stark contrast to other areas of the country such as the dry north and east.

When it comes to nature related sites there are several key areas that should be a part of any visit to Sri Lanka including the famous Sinharaja Rainforest and Yala National Park.

In the hill country, vegetation varies greatly going from certain areas such as valleys and plateau. This is in stark contrast to other areas such as the Rhododendron forests that are home to Spagnum Moss, the Moon Plains, Elk Plains and Horton Plains which is known for its Gorse.

March to May is the period when most of the flowers in Sri Lanka come to bloom making it the most attractive time to visit to catch all the plant life in full bloom including the white Mesua Ferrea, Poinciana Regia and the Tabebuia which features Cherry Blossom like characteristics. Other flora and fauna that is endemic to the region includes Wesak Orchids and the Daffodil.

Visitors to Sri Lanka should note that there is a strict law on the possession of these plants that even goes so far as to include animals that are found in the reserve. Visitors should be careful not to disturb any of the wildlife found in these areas.

When in Sri Lanka, one is ensured of being able to sample an array of plant life that is sure to please even the most ardent of botanist.
