Museums of Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka is rich in both culture and history, and that is evident by its fine collection of artifacts and relics housed in the various elite museums around the country. With history attached to these buildings itself, the tales of over several eras are bestowed in one central location for all to see. Visit the many museums which hold information about this cultural and historically inclined country and be awed the various relics on display.

Some of the better-known museums in Sri Lanka include the National Museum Colombo, National Museum of Natural History Colombo, The Dutch Period Museum, Bandaranaike Museum, Anuradhapura Archaeological Museum, Koggala Folk Museum and the Gems Museum Ratnapura.  Harboring the ancient secrets and mysteries of this wondrous island of paradise, take time to indulge in history and be awed by the splendid relics and artifacts of this immensely cultural and historical country.  Other archaeological sites and museums are situated across cities such as Isurumuniya, Mihintale, Veheragala, Vavuniya, Jaffna, Sigiriya, Kandy, Dedigama, Yapahuwa, Panduwasnuwara, Kotte, Matara (Star-Fort), Deegavapiya and Kataragama.

Lesser known museums include the Weera Puran Appu Museum in Moratuwa, the Sri Lanka Air Force Museum at the SLAF Base in Ratmalana, as well as the Sri Dalada Musuem situated close to the Temple of the Sacred Tooth in Kandy.
